A woman in Australia and a soldier in Iraq fell in love but only get to see each other twice a year.

Working Long Distance, how long distance relationships work, keeping long distance relationships through internet and skype

Long Distance Relationships by Peony Yip

I’ll just say it – I’m a suspect of skepticism over long distance relationships. I believe in the special role physical intimacy, and it’s going to be so hard to love someone you can’t be with all the time.

I’m not into romance and such. But this year, as manly as I like to think of myself, I have learned the best love story yet.

Liza’s in Australia and Rex’s in Iraq, perhaps without any assurance of coming back alive or in a casket in 6 months. There is discrepancy in religion – she’s an atheist, he’s a Mormon. When Rex decided to embrace atheism, his family also decided to disapprove Liza to the point of forcing him to choose between her or his family.

You’d think that a man would want his 240 lbs. girlfriend to trim down a bit, especially from a fit soldier. A gentleman would not say it hastily, but rather hint it or imply it to the girl. But Rex accepted Liza wholeheartedly and it is her utter decision to change lifestyle.

I still don’t know how this works out. It’s hard to trust especially when they met each other online. And there will be people like me criticizing and disbelieving their long distance love.  These could be friends and family alike that’ll try to break the relationship, foreseen it as a dead one.

She flew to US to meet Rex for the first time, and it’s the scariest she has been in her life. There’s a lot of what ifs..

At certain instances they only see each other via Skype, Rex would have his moment of weeping, clearly missing the love of his life. Liza would be like, “this man could really cry!”. I guess he’s crazy for her, and she’s crazy for him. She flew (again!) to Rex in 2010 to surprise him, and you’ll see an incredulous yet very happy man.

They’re getting married too! Happy engagement and have a great marriage Liza and Rex. Read the rest of their romance in Liza’s Long Distance Love.

With stem cell therapy, 30 years could look like 20.

51 years old Lorraine, stemcell therapy and facelift defies aging of modern day, stemcell cosmetics, stemcell makes you look younger

51 years old Lorraine.

Meet Lorraine Giannotti. Listening to the way she talks, you would decide that she’s a sweet teenager girl – delicate like how a child would tell a story. Yeah, she sounds sweet, but she’s 51 on that photo. That shocked me as well!

She had a stemcell facelift, and she attribute that for clearing away the stresses that bagged her face. I guess we won’t see that face for long.

Stemcell has been clacking some news these previous years. The scientists will extract cells from an embryo, which is undifferentiated yet. Meaning, those cells can potentially turn into brain cells, organ linings, skin dermis or any other. In essence, if you inject stemcells to a blind person’s eyes, it may rebuild the dead cells needed for sight. It may also repair heart tendons, or improve immune system. It could be anything your body needed.

The promise is a heap of a deal, but these scientists will have to extract cells from an emerging life, thus killing a chance of living. Of course, Catholic Church will go nuts if they extract it from human life. I would go nuts too. To lessen the crime, they resort to animal embryo, mostly from sheep.

That’s the battle – kill one life to save another. This is also another validation that human beings are dominant among any other beings on earth, but does dominance grant us the power to exploit other life forms?

Now, stemcell slipped to cosmetics. If it is pasted or injected to your face, it’ll regenerate fresh and young skin cells, thus making you look younger. That’s another subject for debate. Should we just accept aging, or should we welcome the aid of breakthrough technologies?

Are we the same person afterwards?

Lorraine said that she doesn’t intend to change who she is but to enhance the person that she was. There’s no reformation of nose or thickening of lips, only the disruption of the natural turnover of life.

How long do you wish to stay and look young?

Here’s something that almost made me cry – toys on the verge of destruction.

Big Boys Cry, cool men cry, man cry, crying boy, crying men

Yeah, that scene from Toy Story 3 when Woody and his pals already accepted their demise. And then once more was when Andy played with his toys for the last time and gave them away. I mean, all men can relate to that. It’s just so hard to let go of your, um, action figures.

Remember the moment when you received a test sheet, scanned the rest of it and found it to be too long. After you’re done with it, you can already publish it as a book. Just looking ahead of that very long boring test, your eyes could water on its own because like it or not, you have to go through with it.

A guy in the name of Rob Dyrdek spent $700 Million on lottery tickets (paid in cash), on which the jackpot prize was $356 Million. The draw came, numbers arise, and surprise him. He lost. Nobody won on that draw. Talk about slap on the face, that’s worth crying to.

Men are taught to not show their weak emotions. Part of masculinity is to hold back tears, an attribute women typically exhibit. So to be a man is to be not a woman. Though, it doesn’t mean that men, over the years, have lost emotions. Men have estrogen as well. It’s undeniable; but denying it is expected of men.

Big boys cry, perhaps not in public but there are instances that can make them cry. Loosing a game of their favorite sports team could do the trick, but also try taking something they treasure so much, be it family, friends, or lunch. Ideally, breaking up with a girl too.

We all have our own story, isn’t it? Actually, there is one thing that can burst me every time. It’s a very horrible experience; I’d want to forget about it; I’d want to get over it; I’d want it to mean nothing. But it just always make me cry – peeling onions.

Remember this episode in friends, where Monica tried to tear up her beau Chandler?

There are movies and TV series remakes, but it cannot replicate the same gratifying experience of reading a novel.

Novel Reading; life's best is good novels, reading books outside, the good life and reading excellent books

Novel Reading. Photo from readbreatherelax.com

There are fast-reading gifted people, and there are those who consciously reads fast to keep the upbeat pace of finishing books. I’m neither of them, because I take my time in the feast of a read.

Quality novels are ingenious. It’s one my best chosen creative work of all. It’s meticulous, containing both reason and emotion while nobility uncompromising. I like it more when I invest emotions with the characters, and I appreciate the intricate characters buildup and story conflicts and surprises.

From writer’s hardwork of first drafts, then to editing phase, only to be critiqued and reduced by agents, more by editors, until it was in its prestige for publishing. This game is a damn miraculous progress. I appreciate the hard work and persistence of authors.

I devour Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist, Michael Crichton’s Next, Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner, Dan Brown’s Angels & Demons, even Homer’s The Iliad. But I always go back to my home genre, Young Adult.

J.K. Rowling, thanks for your share of story.

What novels are your favorites?

Bullying Helps forming character and values, positive bullying; Boy is Bullied

Boy is Bullied. Photo from singlemindedwomen.com

It is not preferred for any child to be bullied at all. Yes, in a perfect world; but ours was imperfect. Regardless of one’s developmental stage, class or any demographics you can think of, bullies are sure visitors.

It’s true, a fact of unfair life. I’ve seen (and known) many adults who would break into a fistfight just because someone accidentally stepped on him, or would rant publicly in a waiter’s degraded face because of a trivial mistake of dropping an onion on her lap. These people don’t know how to handle unexpected and disadvantaged events, and it may perhaps because the likes of similar events are never experienced before.

A bullied child will learn how to fight later on. I’m promoting fighting; not to harass but to defend, not to be violent but to be vigilant, and not to be purely emotional but to be justly rational. It’s so easy to punch back or pull the hair of your bullies, but you’ve learned a valuable lesson when you restrained yourself and fought back with integrity.

Experiencing pain early in life only increases your threshold of it. Indefinitely, next time an oppressing force strained you, you knew you got over it, that it’s nothing beyond manageable. I see bullying as a practical teacher from life for the rest of life.

On finale note, there are two sides. It is better to be bullied, that to be the bully.

What’s your view in bullying? Has it changed you?
