If you want to be successful, try to be a morning person.

Author Laura Vanderkam argues that successful people, referring to CEO’s and top of the industry successes, are mostly morning person. That’s a correlation, and she believes in transforming night owls to morning peeps for the sapid success everybody wanted.
There’s a part of me that’s agreeing with her. Productivity is at peak in the morning; mind is fresh, body is rested. Just compare it to the evening status of our selves, where our body and brain are both exhausted. You see the rationale behind it.
This is good news for me because I’m all around. I can peer like an owl at night but be able to wake up early to do something valuable, be it exercise or this article. But the night lovers could cringe, or perhaps disagree overtly because this claim is robbing them their chance for success.
Another part of me believed in productivity at any time of the day. I know mornings are the best time, but there are slits of opportunities throughout the day. I’m talking about a jog between break time or midnight study. This is the general finding; it’s good to know but our opinions about ourselves will still be the loudest. Just whatever works for us, worked for us so keep on doing it!

i am a night owl! and much more productive later on in the day b/c im too groggy and out of it in the morning!
Hi 🙂 I know what you mean. Maybe you’re groggy in the morning because you’ve used up your night time? Body is clamoring 8 hours of sleep haha
I don’t know….There have been times when I burn the candle at both ends….what does that mean??? 🙂
I’m also like that! I think we have the best of both worlds. We’re good.. Haha
My father-in-law always says that waking up early makes a man healthy 🙂
and apparently, it makes a man wealthy too!
I’m a night person. At this moment, I am writing this comment at 1:08 AM. I do my best work during the late afternoon and the evenings. As far as success goes, I think it depends on what field the night person chooses to succeed in.
Well good morning there! Studies like these drift us out of conventional thinking; but yeah, no single modifier could predict a person’s success
I am a certified morning person. too bad, i’m stuck with mid-shift (late noon to late night)
Ohh, so what’s your trick in staying awake at night?
halfway through my shift i almost always have to prick my eyes open. so i just read my book whenever i feel like dozing off
Well, I’m a night person, always have been, and I’m an artist! I think the morning/night tendencies depend more on the one’s internal clock … and how exactly one measures success, of course. 😉 I have the freedom to set my own schedule, so my working hours shift radically from the 9 to 5 most of these studies call the “norm.” But then I don’t have to answer to anyone else or punch a time clock, so I am not restricted that way. 🙂
In the author’s book, she gave ways to transform night owls to morning people. Thus, she’s believing that our internal clocks can be manipulated 😀
I love your freedom from work! But then, it takes discipline eh. You don’t answer to anyone else but if you became too lenient and didn’t do any work, you’ll slack off.
I think I enjoy mornings and evenings! Seems like I’m up all the time. 🙂
I enjoy both ends too! And we’re not insomniac, are you? 🙂
The early bird does get the worm! Ideas flow easier in the morning, but they need to be consolidated as the day goes on. For me anyway.
By consolidated, you mean you revisit the idea to improve it? Yeah, that’s for me too 🙂
My grandma always said that when the night comes the lazy ones wake up – I’m lazy and always been really … that’s me. Love the nights alone with my thoughts .. love out walking at nights so .. the whole world is mine then.
Depends on where you are. If you’re in Las Vegas, you won’t be alone at night haha! We all need that “me” time, aren’t we? I love it to be at night when the moon is full and bright or the stars are scattered.
So you’re lazy too ??? *laughter – Never been to Las Vegas, but I’m playing with the thought.
Hey!! Well I have lazy times, and I deserve it HAHA! Maybe if you’re in las vegas, your lazy times are in the morning.
There is a study to prove everything. 🙂 Night owls are more creative.
Hah! I like the study because it has something for both morning and night people. Pondering about it, I do have my “AHA” moments when I’m groggy, oooh. Thanks for the reply, night owl!
I guess how it’s all in how you define success. If you want to be a CEO, chances are your had better get up and be effective in the morning when the business world wakes up. Everyone has opportunities on a daily basis to be successful at so many tasks at all times of the day.
That’s good pointing out that CEOs are needed in the morning. Success could be field dependent; and you’re right, we cannot just disregard the many opportunities dispersed throughout the day.
I am more of a night owl but I’m trying to convert. I do think I am more productive in the morning and I like the morning quiet. It’s tough though because I always get a second wind at night. It’s hard to make the switch so lately I’ve been going to bed late and waking up early. That’s no good!
Laura Vanderkam cited ways for aspirant converts like you in her upcoming book. Yeah, make sure you’re in bed early, watch a boring movie or something. Whatever makes you drool
Good to know. Thanks! I will look her up. Yes, tired again today. Got to bed earlier but then woke up in the middle of the night.Darn it! I think I’m getting closer….
If this is true I will never rule the world! My brain doesn’t really seem to come alive until around 10pm and I usually hit my productive stride around 12 am. A night owl I am for sure!
The implication is that you rule your world, you rock! HAHA. You’re definitely a nocturnal person; by that time my eyes are shutting down.
I’m definitely a morning person, but… me being me, my highest productive times are late morning and mid-afternoon. I like the quiet of the early morning to putter around (if I’m at home) and do my own thing. Mid-morning finds me making out my lists of what I need to or should do. Then i do them. Then it’s lunch, followed by more list making, doing what is on the list and then I’m back to puttering the rest of the day.
I think you have the habit of a highly productive person. Don’t you love it when you cross out a task from your list? I love doing it!
lol I just cram my productivity into only a couple hours a day! I do, however, love crossing out things on my list.
So, if I’m trying to be a morning person (I’m definitely not one by nature!) does that mean I’m trying to be successful?
If the reason for your lifestyle change is for success, then I guess you are trying to be successful. It’s nice seeing you here!
Lucky for me I have always had the ability to leap from my bed into the day well before others! Actually, it drove my family crazy for years – I tend to sing and hum in the predawn hours. Thanks for stopping by Middlescapes.com earlier today. I liked your site a great deal and plan to return. Beth
HAHA why wouldn’t they just sing along? I appreciate your visit too Beth, just enjoy your time here 🙂
Night own, surely. And there’s a reason: http://goo.gl/1bY6g Though I do like this reasoning better: http://goo.gl/sl3GL 😉
Of course you would, self-proclaimed night owl! It’s interesting why night owls are reported to be more intelligent than morning larks, but still, the claim is that success are for the morning people haha!
I’m a morning person but I’m a night owl too! haha:p Yes I’m productive but I guess my lifestyle makes my health suffer :p Anyway, awesome post! 🙂 You should be on Freshly Pressed! 🙂
A morning person who wakes up running at full speed but often burns the candle late…
so much truth to this blog post, I try my best to get up early these days
