People with the same sleeping position have similar personality characteristics.

Not everything is needed a thought. You probably don’t notice your sleeping positions. Like breathing, sleeping is a mandatory physiological habit that you just do.
But we observe other people sleep, right? That is for the sole reason of it being fun. You poke someone with something, then he grunts but you continue the poking and chuckle. Other times you take a picture of a person sleeping, idiotic looking, and showed it to everybody.
You should think about your own sleeping position. The study of Chris Idzikowski, director of the Sleep Assessment and Advisory Service in UK, found that these positions can give a hint of a person’s personality, alongside the health concern.
Here’s the meaning of the most popular sleeping positions, directly taken from BBC Health and Men’s Health:
The Foetus: Those who curl up in the foetus position are described as tough on the outside but sensitive at heart. They may be shy when they first meet somebody, but soon relax. Sleeping on your left side can cause stress on your vital organs (liver, stomach, lungs).
Log: These sleepers are easy going, social people who like being part of the in-crowd, and who are trusting of strangers. However, they may be gullible.
The yearner: People who sleep on their side with both arms out in front are said to have an open nature, but can be suspicious, cynical. They are slow to make up their minds, but once they have taken a decision, they are unlikely ever to change it.
Soldier: People who sleep in this position are generally quiet and reserved. They don’t like a fuss, but set themselves and others high standards. Research shows that sleeping on your back may lead to snoring, trouble breathing, and an overall bad night’s sleep.
Freefall: Often gregarious and brash people, but can be nervy and thin-skinned underneath, and don’t like criticism, or extreme situations. Lying face down is good for digestion.
Starfish: These sleepers make good friends because they are always ready to listen to others, and offer help when needed. They generally don’t like to be the centre of attention. Like the soldier, starfish sleepers are more likely to snore and have breathing problems while they sleep, resulting in a less refreshing night’s sleep.
Do you agree with what your sleeping position says about you?

The thing is, as things happen to you (you get hurt, you get older, or get arthritis, or any number of things) you change the way you sleep to accommodate new physical restrictions.
I always used to sleep on my stomach with my arms curled under me against my chest. That stopped 20 years ago when I hurt my back. Now, 58 years old, I cycle through nearly all those positions (I can’t seem to sleep in one position, I wake up and need to move).
I can’t tell you what sleeping position say about me or anyone, but I can tell you what reading about them, and putting any stock in this sort of thing says about those who do . . . they don’t know themselves. A bad thing, not knowing who you are.
Professor Idzikowski also mentioned in his study that only 5% of his participants reveal that they are willing to change their sleeping positions. I guess certain circumstances will alter it. I also have a cycle of sleeping positions, but the domineering one was starfish. Do you have that one domineering sleeping position, or it just varies?
There are parts of you that you don’t know, but other people know it. It is also important to know what other people sees of you so you become more knowledgeable of yourself. Just my thoughts, thanks a bunch for sharing sir.
I am a foetus, but then, everybody who knows me knows that already… such a hard, and durable exterior concealing a soft and gooey center of please, oh please love me, Love Me, LOVE ME…
Mommy?
I like the foetus. I sleep like this all the time.
Interesting blog! I sleep in the Foetus and Yearner positions and for the most part, I do agree with what they say about me.
Nice knowing you then =)) I just read again the descriptions for Foetus and Yearner. I hope you don’t feel the stress on your stomach though
I am usually in the fetus position on my right side. Interesting analysis. I always wonder how they arrive at these leaps to personality types. It reminds me of dreams. I bet there are 1000’s of interpretations! Hahaha!
For this study, they analyzed their participants and found out the recurring personality traits per sleeping position. It’s different in dreams interpretation, which is subjective to each person. There are numerous interpretations out there but the scientific one is that of a psychologist. You sleep in fetus, so are you shy then? HAHA
You figured that out! I am really out-going and am not afraid to strike up a conversation with anyone. Hahaha!
I lie in bed in all those positions but I’m best at falling asleep in the soldier position. It just works for me. Plus my dreams aren’t as weird.
Hey what can I say? I like sleeping because it’s like being dead, only without the commitment!
HAHA never sign a contract when sleeping.
You have some interesting pieces.
Hey thank you! I hope you visit more often
Very good … but what about us that – can’t sleep at all !!!! *smile – I’m The Foetus – can’t believe that sleep can be dangerous too *smile
I’m a yearner! haha this is an interesting read before I sleep tonight. 😀
I’m a Freefall- but I fit the description of a soldier 🙂
According to this, I am a quiet, reserved, sensitive and brash person! lol. Interesting article. Thanks for sharing.
I always have my arms tucked, but not necessarily on my side. These kinds of studies into peeps personalities are always interesting!
Well, reading through the blog, it seems like I’m a little bit of every single one! Wonder what that means…? 🙂
By the way, I wanted to let you know that I nominated you for “The Versatile Blog” award. You’ll find the instructions and such on my page.
Hope you’re having an awesome Leap Day! 🙂
I think I do them all! How messed up is that?
Highly instructive!
I guess I’m a little bit of everything… I cycle through those like a chicken on a rotisserie! LOL. I usually start out “foetus” and your post caught my attention because you say sleeping on your left side can cause strain on organs? When I was pregnant the doctor always said “Sleep on your left side to relieve strain”… ??? Oh well, I’m probably doing that wrong too! LOL
What exactly are the positions for soldier, log and starfish.
And what about the dead body position: on the back with hands folded across the chest?
At times I think I sleep like all of them…
I think all guys are starfish sleepers 😉
Well worth reading….
Starfish!
Definitely a starfish, but sometimes my arms fall asleep.
Very entertaining blog
Ha! Pretty interesting. 😀
Most of the time I’m a Foetus sleeper. Part of the time I’m a Yearner, and occasionally I’m a starfish. Might seem like I’m a confused individual, but I think it’s just a matter of comfort.
I like it. Thanks!
Do you agree with what your sleeping position(s) says about you? I had never thought of this concept before….Trying to change to sleeping on my back…I agree lying on your left side is not good….indeed.
I’m just a guy yearning for a reply…
Some people can sleep like a log,
Or freefall into a dark fog;
If we sleep like a fetus,
Will a soldier defeat us?
Can a starfish write a great blog?
